    I’m being serious, what is the science behind it?


    Hi! There are many reasons for this. Your voice is made up of bones, cartilages, ligaments, tendons and muscles. That means when your voice is tired/sore, your vocal folds/cords are probably a little swollen.

    Your vocal folds vibrate at the frequency of the pitches you sing. If they’re swollen and puffy, they don’t vibrate very well. So, it makes it harder to sing. Also, the internal muscles of your throat (that control your voice box) won’t do their job very well when they’re tired. That means you’re even more likely to strain your voice when you sing with a worn out voice.

    If your voice is otherwise healthy (you don’t have a cold/cough), it usually only takes a day or two of rest to get it back up and running again!

    Great breakdown, you hit the nail pretty much on the head.

    I would go a step further though and say that if you’re singing properly, your voice really shouldn’t be getting so tired. Opera singers, Broadway singers…these people do 8 shows a week with great big voices.

    I would recommend at LEAST watching some videos, and maybe going to see a voice teacher to get your technique lined up properly. These are VERY delicate tissues. It’s not hard to do permanent damage.
